The Bottlebrush (or Callistemon species) gets it name due to its cylindrical, brush like flowers resembling a traditional bottle brush. It is a small, shrubby tree, normally reaching heights of 10 to 15 feet (sometimes as tall as 25 feet) tall. Once established, these trees are drought-tollerant and produce fuzzy red flowers. The Bottlebrush is an evergreen tree, so it’s a great choice for hiding unsightly views. But because of the wispy nature of the tree, the Bottlebrush allows light to filter through, rather than create a solid hedge-type blockage which gives privacy without a sense of complete obstruction Bees, hummingbirds and butterflies seem to love the red flowers of the Bottlebrush which is great for the ecosystem! These trees can be lost in cold winters, but do great in hot climates (like Texas). Just keep them out of searing heat if possible These trees require little care and maintenance. Suckers on the trunk should be removed periodically if a tree form is desired.
